The Ten Commandments - The Super Law of God - Commandment 5 - Family Devotional
Updated: Jul 13, 2019
Welcome to the Children's Christian Learning Family Devotional! We are on a 10 part journey to learn about The Ten Commandments - The Super Law of God.
God gave us the Ten Commandments to show us how we should live. No matter how hard we try, we all break God's Commandments (Romans 3:23).
Yes! even Super heroes break God's Super Law.
Let's look at the Fifth Commandment........
“Honour your father and your mother: that your days may be long upon the land which the Lord your God gives you” (Exodus 20:12).
The Fifth Commandment is special, because it is the first commandment with a promise (Ephesians 6:2). A long life is promised to those who have the proper respect for their parents. To honour our parents is to show them respect and obey them. In order to please God children are to "obey their parents in everything" (Colossians 3:20). It's important a child is instructed in the ways of the Lord: and it is a parents duty to train up a child in the way he should go” (Proverbs 22:6). A child who will not submit to the authority of his parents, is very unlikely to submit to God’s authority and obey God’s Laws.
In John 6:38, Jesus declared, “For I have come down from heaven, not to do my own will but the will of him who sent me.” Jesus came to obey the Father’s will and that obedience took Him all the way to the cross. His obedience offers us hope, peace, joy and everlasting life and if He had not humbled Himself and became obedient unto the death of the cross, we would remain in our sins and we would remain without hope.
The Law of God is used to show us how far we have fallen short of God’s perfect standard. The Law brings the knowledge of sin. Most of us haven't honoured our parents the way we should have. If we have lied or stolen then we have dishonoured our parents’ name by being a lying thief.
Ephesians 6:1-3 Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. “Honour your father and mother” (this is the first commandment with a promise), “that it may go well with you and that you may live long in the land.”

The Super Law of God, Is Just Like A Mirror?
The Ten Commandments - The Super Law of God is just like a mirror. A mirror to our hearts. It helps us see the bad things we have done. The Super Law of God shows us how we need to be washed clean before we meet God, on the day of judgement.
Paul says in Romans 7:7, “I had not known sin but by the Law.”
